Stool Testing
It is sometimes necessary to test the stool in cases of abdominal discomfort or digestive disturbance. After an initial consultation with one of the physicians, such testing will be ordered if it is appropriate. A specialized collection kit with instructions is given to the patient. The sample is then collected in the privacy of the patient's home and delivered via FedEx or USPS directly to the laboratory.
All tests are sent out to a third party laboratory where assays and/ or cultures are performed.
Currently, we use Doctor's Data Laboratories ( www.doctorsdata.com ) and Diagnos-Techs ( www.diagnostechs.com ) for all GI function testing.
Information that can be gathered from these tests include:
- Pancreatic function
- blood in the stool
- pH levels
- candida (yeast) overgrowth
- acidophilus/ bifidobacteria levels
- parasitic infestation
- inflammation of the small or large intestine
- immune suppression
- growth of amebic or protozoal microorganisms.
